KS 2-Yr 3 & 4 + work for home
Lower Key Stage 2
This consists of Years 3 and 4 at The Hills. Year 3 is where pupils start to make more decisions about their work and take more responsibility for their learning. We continue to promote understanding through practical, fun activities balanced with a more structured teaching style.
Year 4 builds on the progress achieved in Year 3. We encourage positive behaviour for learning and maintain our high expectations for progress so that Year 4 children have a seamless transition to Year 5 and are prepared to have flying start to Upper Key Stage 2 and their Key Stage 2 SATs.
Year 3 and 4 Curriculum
In Year 3 and 4 we have six creative curriculum topics which rotate through our pupils’ time in Lower Key Stage 2. We plan our topics around exciting key texts and follow a cross-curricular and creative approach to learning. Topics usually begin with a stunning start (a topic visitor or mysterious classroom ‘arrival’), we maintain momentum with a Marvellous Middle (a trip or creative experience) and end with Fabulous Finishes (such as our Indian Bazaar or Titanic Tea Party) to which parents are invited.
Our topics are:
- Storms and Shipwrecks, Passage to India, Reach for the stars, Into the Woods, Frozen Worlds, Swords and Sandals
Trips and visits are woven within these topics and they include a visit from Robin Hood, Roman legionary boot camp, astronaut training, The National Space Centre in Leicester, penguin feeding at Woburn Zoo, annual activity days in Bromham Woods and of course our successful 2 night residential at Hilltop Outdoor Centre in Sheringham (moving to year 5 from 2018). Our pupils will have various opportunities to participate in a range of extra-curricular activities throughout the year as each teacher runs a lunchtime or after school club. In recent years these have included silk painting, K’Nex, Fun fitness and handbells to name a few .
Further information about the Year 3 and 4 Curriculum is always available on the school website where we share our key dates, topic overviews and blogs with parents.
