Reception Weekly Blog

Welcome back to our Reception blog!

We have had a busy week and thoroughly enjoyed finishing it by sitting in classrooms full of princesses and superheroes!  During the week we have continued to practise rehearsing for our Christmas production and the children are working really hard - remembering all the words to songs together with their own speaking parts.  We have also been focusing on 1 more and 1 less.  The children are far more confident on 1 more - so as a weekend activity it would be great if you could set up tasks with your children where they have to identify 1 less of something.  Once they can do this using practical resources, then they could practise solving problems using mental calculations.  If they are brilliant at both, then you could challenge them with differing blocks of number, e.g. 2 less, 5 less etc.  We have also been in the process of completing our Christmas decorations for our Christmas Fayre on Saturday 26th November (1.30-4.00 p.m.)

Next week we are focusing on subtraction in our mathematics and on the Friday afternoon the children will be in the hall watching a film and, as this is happening, the school staff will be quickly decorating the whole school with Christmas decorations in readiness for when the children walk out of the hall - a brilliant start to our school Christmas!
