Spring has arrived!!

The children have really enjoyed their first experience of still life drawing. They had a “spring in their step” as they looked closely at a daffodil. Using pastels, they recreated a life size daffodil and the reproductions were fantastic. Check out the group photo for evidence!!

Rotational Symmetry

Over the last few clubs, we have been reproducing our own designs based on Rotational Symmetry. The children have really enjoyed this challenge and have produced some stunning and effective pieces of art work. Please take a look at our pictures.

Welcome to Art Club! Featured

Hello and welcome to this year's Art Club. We have just started and are straight in with using our designing skills already! We have been thinking about designing our own "Lucky Charm" Khamsa Hands. If you didn't know, Khamsa hands originate from Africa, and are seen as being Lucky Charms. We have looked at examples of hands and talked about what we would like to incorporate into our own designs. This week has been the planning and designing stage, and next week we will be transferring the design onto the hand template. We look forward to seeing some stunning hands!! We are also very fortunate to have been given a display board in the Library so we can display pieces of work from Art Club. Please feel free to go and check out the fantastic work that we will be producing throughout the year! If you have not already given contact details to us for your children, please do this next week. We look forward to updating you with all the things that we will be doing every week.

Art Club Review 2011-2012

Well done to all the children who have attended Art Club this year - you have been really creative and lots of fun! Over the year we have entered two competitions, both run by the Woodland Trust. We spent time looking at the work of Andy Goldsworthy, prior to entering our first competition where we designed artworks using natural materials.  Also in the autumn term we made personalised photo frames using blank CD cases and designed our very own Khansa (good luck) hands.  In the spring we focused on geometric art and our collaborative display can be seen in the school library!  We also spent time carefully creating colour wheels denoting hues, tints and shades.  Other activities during the term included wax and scratch artwork and designing birthday cards which will be used to celebrate children's birthdays throughout the school.  In the summer term, our second competition was to decorate a minibeast as creatively as possible using mixed media and we will have to wait until mid-summer to hear if we have been successful. We now look forward to seeing some familiar faces back to club next year and hope that we will also be meeting some new Hillls artists next September!
